President’s Message

CONNECT WITH CECILY

As you may know, this year we have two goals, the first is to Increase Membership Engagement and the second is to focus on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. We want to make sure we’re including you, your perspective and your voice as a part of this year.

Please join us for our upcoming events in March, reach out and we hope to see you at some of the events we are planning this year, such as in-person gatherings, online educational experiences, a strong volunteer program and at certain conferences around BC.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve you, wishing you a successful March and looking forward to seeing you soon.

In gratitude,

Cecily Elmas, President

Black History Month

Moreover, in another report entitled, Expose of Women’s Workplace Experiences Challenges Anti Racist Leaders to Step Up, they reported that over half of women from marginalized racial and ethnic groups around the world experience racism at work. I recently posted about the experiences of a Black Canadian woman’s experiences with anti-Black racism within her profession in a LinkedIn post earlier this month.

In learning more about her experiences, I was left wondering how we, as a coaching community, can create more inclusive spaces for clients who identify as Black, Indigenous or People of Colour? I wish I had all the answers, but we can start with respectful curiosity and reflection on our own cultural competence and lean into that uncomfortable feeling that comes from questioning our own biases and privilege. This is a continuous journey of education, patience, humility, curiosity, and questioning. As part of our efforts, your ICF Vancouver Chapter has recently developed and adopted our own Anti Discrimination statement as we continue our journey of being a more inclusive chapter.

In the meantime, please feel free to view some attached Human Rights, Equity, and Inclusion resources available from the University of Waterloo.

In gratitude,

Stephen Hinds, Secretary & Director, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)

Welcome to Our Newest

Chapter Members

Since January 1, 2023

As you may have heard, February was not a great month for our digital ecosystem. First our website got knocked out and then our email server was blocked.

While our email was quickly back up and running, the website is a whole other story. It was due to be retired in the coming months as it was running on (very) old technology (i.e. read very difficult to maintain with limited functionality).

Instead of trying to recover the old site we decided to fast forward our plans for a new site. This pivot meant that we had to quickly set up a temporary site which you can find here: icfbc.ca

During the transition we’ll also be relying more than ever on our social media channels to share information with our members. If you’re not already following our social media feeds, you can find them here:

If you need to connect with us directly, please use the direct message option on your favourite social media platform or email us at [email protected].

We expect to launch the first version of the new site in May 2023 and continue to build it out over the summer months. When it’s fully developed it will have great new content and functionality including:

  • Event registration and payment collection

  • Members only community forum

  • Find-a-coach

  • Board transition support

  • …and more!

Ways to Support Earthquake Relief in Turkey & Syria

Our hearts go out to all those affected by the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria earlier this month. In times of crisis, it is important that we come together as a global community to support those in need. The ICF Global Board of Directors is working to finalize a donation on behalf of ICF. If you are interested in providing your own support, you can find links to a number of reputable disaster relief organizations on our website. Every little bit helps, and your contribution can provide essential supplies, shelter, and medical care to those in need. Together, we can help to make a difference in the lives of those affected by this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Turkey and Syria during this difficult time.
