President’s Message

|
Hello!
We are getting closer to the most nourishing time of year for us as Coaches, The International Coaching Week! This year I really want to commend the Board of Directors for putting this together, for the thought that went into each and every experience and the momentum we have as a Board to serve you our community is inspiring. We are committed to Engagement, Growth and Diversity and would love to continue to hear from you our community what it is that you’re looking for as members.

Who would you like to hear from, what would you like to see, how do you engage and most importantly, how can we support you?
On another note, we have had some changes on our board this year. We do feel stronger than ever! I would love to re-introduce our Board of Directors so you can reach out to them and say hello.

Diversity Month: What’s in the numbers?
465,000! 18,000! 44%!
|
Those numbers, respectively, represent the projected newcomers to arrive in Canada in 2023, the increasing population of nonbinary and transgender people living in British Columbia and the percentage of Indigenous people who experience discrimination while on the street or at work.
When I reflect on these numbers and as a coach that identifies as a person of colour, I am curious about the services available to our newest residents and existing members of our country and province as they participate in life or the workplace in this month known as Diversity Month?
According to the Society of Human Resource Management, diversity refers to the collective mixture of differences and similarities. To my mind, it goes beyond what makes us different from one another, it also comes with the responsibility to promote inclusivity (where diversity flourishes) and fosters a sense of belonging that should lead to acceptance without judgment. Given the change in the makeup of our country and workplaces, we as a coaching community need to recognize the challenges faced by our diverse makeup. Nellie Borrero, Managing Director, Senior Global Inclusion & Diversity Lead at Accenture said, “diversity is a fact, but inclusion is a choice we make every day”.
Based on the above, diversity is so much more than a month of celebration, it is an opportunity for a call to action on being more inclusive while learning and growing as we build a more inclusive country. By embracing diversity and promoting inclusivity, we can create a stronger, more resilient Canada and province.
|
|
|
As part of our chapter’s call to action, during International Coach Week, Nicole Beauregard (our Vice President & Treasurer) and I will be presenting two interactive Cultural Competency workshops designed by ICF Global to increase cultural awareness in coaching. I am thrilled to see our members are truly interested and the event is sold out!

Our goal for these workshops is to challenge our own ideas around culture so we can build more inclusive spaces for our clients and coaching community. To build on that, our chapter wants to increase our membership of under-represented communities of coaches who identify as Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC) as well as members of the LGBQS2+ community. Finally, we want to increase our coach giving partners to include not for profits that serve under-represented communities within our geographic area. We are always interested in hearing from our members so if you have any ideas of not for profits that could be potential partners, please drop me a note at [email protected].
Let’s continue to honor the diversity that makes up this great country and reflect on what will be our own personal call to action. If you are interested in learning more about the Coach Giving Program, please reach out to me personally.
Stephen Hinds, Director of Coach Giving Program & Diversity Inclusion Equity

Since January 2023, ICF Vancouver has been offering free online speaker programs to our members. We recognize that many of you have faced hardships as uncertainty around a recession impacts organisations and the ability of individuals to pay for coaching.
In International Coaching Week, we are extending our offerings by subsidising our in-person events by 50%.
That means you pay $30 and we pay the rest.
Come and join us and take advantage of this great opportunity!
